North Shore

Day 3 of our Hawaii Vacation took us up to the north shore. It was overcast for a good portion of the morning and we had the occasional shower but we still got plenty of sun. In fact Ross managed to burn the back of his legs since he didn’t put any sun screen on back there.

For lunch we went to Macky’s Shrimp truck in Haleiwa. I don’t think Nicole was overly impressed with it but that may be because their specialty of garlic butter is not Nicole friendly. After lunch we went to grab dessert from Matsumoto’s which was so yummy. Nicole decided to branch out and try two flavors but I stuck with my traditional strawberry.

Once we had our shave ice we headed back to the beach to catch a few more hours of sunshine before we headed home. While we were there in the afternoon we were lucky to see a bunch of turtles come all the way up to the edge of the water. Ross even managed to catch a couple of pictures of the turtle.

Going to the office…

As gas prices continue to rise I’m definitely starting to feel the pinch. When gas hit $4 a gallon I figured out that it cost me about $15 to go to work and drive back home. That’s a pretty respectable amount of money spent on just going to the office especially considering that my job offers me the flexibility to work from home.

Lately I’ve been hit with the delema of if its really worth it to go to work. By me working at home more often I can effective give myself a raise by cutting down on expenses. I used to follow the rule that unless I had a good reason not to go to the office I would just go into the office. However I kinda fell like that is shifting the other way, where i’ll go into the office if i have a reason to. It seems like such a waste if I’m going to spend all that money on gas and the time it takes me to drive in if I’m only going to be sitting at my desk and not speaking with anyone else.

I’m not the only person in the office that is starting to take this approach either. Some of the other guys are increasingly starting to work from home. Although I have the longest drive some of my other coworkers have a pretty respectable commute also. As gas prices continue to rise I think our office dynamic might start changing more. One of my coworkers has taken to biking into work more often as a way to cut down on his gas bill.

PS: I saw a tank on the beltway on my way into work today.

Suburban Woman

So the last bit of my drive involves a quick drive through the front of a residential townhouse development. Today as I waited at the light just before pulling into my office I saw what looked like the poster woman for the suburban housewife cross the street in front of me. She was prob in her late twenties maybe earlier thirties. She was blond wearing a blue north face fleece. She had her baby in one of those chest carries that made the baby look like a white bunny. She was out on this gorgeous sunny day walking her small beagle puppy who was more interested in sniffing everything under the sun than crossing the street. It made me smile.
