I’m a bit slow, but I’m finally going to write about our recent week-long vacation to “Canada.”
Every summer growing up, my family would spend our summer vacation with other Crnkoviches at a lake cabin(s) on a small lake in Ontario. LaCloche lake is a small lake located 2.5 hours east of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The lake is right next to the North Channel of Lake Huron, and empties into it through a small stream. Growing up, we referred to the cabins/lake etc just as “Canada”, and it was the only part of Canada I had experienced. It’s kind of funny, but even now that I realize that Canada is much larger, I still refer to our vacation spot as just “Canada.”
This trip to Canada was my first since 2004, and Ross’ first trip ever. I was happy that Ross was able to make it, and experience a place that made up much of my childhood. Unfortunately, this part of Canada is not that easy to get to. Any route from the DC area required a plane flight, car rental and lengthy drive (at least 6 hrs). So, we decided to fly into Dayton, OH and meet my grandparents there, and help them with the 11 hour drive up. The car was quite packed — 4 adults and luggage, food etc in one car made it pretty tight. Poor Ross had to make the trip with his book bag on his lap. Although quite long, I think the trip up went pretty well.
In addition to my grandparents, Ross and me — My Aunt and Uncle and their 2.5 year old son were there, and another Aunt and Uncle with their 3 boys and dog were there. I think it was a good group of people and made for a fun week. We had pretty good weather the week we were there, although it was a little on the cool side. We had 1.5 days of rainy weather – but after that it cleared up and was nice the rest of the week. The week was full of lots of food, swimming, water skiing, paddle boating, hiking, blueberry picking, tubing, board game playing, napping, reading etc. Everything we did can’t be covered in one post, so I think I’ll make other posts divided up by activity.
It was a wonderful week — and I’m glad that we got to go!!
