The end is in sight….

May 4th, 2009

I’m sitting in a quiet corner of an unused conference room trying to work on my thesis….but somehow writing a blog post seemed more appealing.

I haven’t yet shared it on the blog, but I’m finally finishing grad school.  There is an end in sight! I have scheduled my thesis defense for Friday, June 26th.  I was hesitant sharing this information fearing that I would somehow jinx myself.  However, now that the date is less than 2 months away it feels safer to let everyone now.  It’s on my committee’s calendars, a room has been reserved and travel plans made by family to attend.

With that said…even though I know there is an end in sight, it certainly doesn’t feel like there is an end in sight!  I now officially have the first draft of my thesis written and handed to my advisor.  Although, now I’m getting comments back from him and the comments he is making are not really the ‘minor’ revisions he had promised.  The next 2 weeks are going to be full of  franctic thesis revisions so that I can have a new draft to my official thesis reader by May 15th.

Add on top of all the thesis writing expeirments that I”m still trying to finish – it’s a hectic and stressful.  Admist all of this I’ve attempted to find a job with no luck so far.  I think that the really serious job seraching will have to wait until after I’ve finished my thesis and defended.  It’s too much to write a thesis, finish experiments, find a job and defend at the same time.   Thankfully Ross isn’t putting much pressure on the job front.

When I think about the fact that in about 2 months I won’t even be here anymore, it is kind of unreal to me.  My life the last 5 years has been consumed with graduate school.  I am certainly looking forward to doing something new where I can have most of my nights and weekends back. Although it will probably take some adjusting on my part.
