Shyenne’s Wedding

March 23rd, 2009

The day after my birthday was the wedding of one of the girls that nicole works with in the lab. The bride looking amazing and we had a good time hanging out with her lab mates between the ceremony and the start of the reception. The really cool part about their wedding was that it was in the aquarium. I’m sure it must have cost them a pretty penny to be able to have it there but it was awesome and made for a very memorable experiance. It was also really nice to be able to go through the place without five billion little kids making noise and crowded into the front of the glass.

After the ceremony we went to a bar and had a ‘few’ drinks. Look at those drinks. Nicole is such a lush.

Birthday

March 23rd, 2009

So yes its been over a week but I’m finally getting around to posting about my birthday. It started off not so well but ended up as a very good birthday. It got off to a not so great start because I had a hard time sleeping the night before so I only had a couple of hours of sleep. This made me made at myself cause I knew i was likely gonna be tired and grumpy the rest of the day and not appreciate my birthday gifts. Also although it was friday because of an architect coming into town I need to go into the office instead of my usual work from home. So I headed into the office. Thankfully the meeting with the architect was early in the afternoon so I was able to drive home early so I wouldn’t be stuck in all the afternoon traffic and finished the day from home.

For my birthday Nicole was making me a prime rib dinner. I was very excited for this since we didn’t have prime rib when we were at home in hawaii at Christmas. Nicole’s effort in buying my prime rib is a story in itself since she ended up getting the meat on super secret sale. Nicole went to Safeway on wednesday to buy the meat in advance of my birthday so she could save time on friday. However when she was there the butcher told her that the cut of meat she wanted would be on sale $6 lb instead of the usual $9. When nicole got there on friday she had to ask the butcher working then and he didn’t even know it was on sale and there were no signs up around the place. So it was super secret since not even the workers knew about it :-) .

Nothing left by the time i got done

So nicole came home early from work and made me the prime rib the way Mom makes it home which means it was coveredĀ  in hawaiian salt and garlic (yum). Not only was she making me prime rib but she also was making a batch of chocolate mouse. On top of making a wonderful dinner she got all dressed up and put on her makeup too so I got to have dinner with a gorgeous lady.

While we were waiting for the prime rib to finish cooking I got to open all the gifts from my family. This birthday was one of the few times that there were a bunch of electronics that i wanted that weren’t too expensive. So my mother got me a new universal remote that I’ve wanted for awhile. It’s super smart and can control both the tv and tivo but it is also able to control the computer next to my tv when it’s in media mode. The only thing it can’t do right now is control the ps3 because that requires blue tooth. Nicole got me a new wireless keyboard for the same computer. this is good since we dropped cable and are doing streaming. This makes navigating to websites much easier to do than remoting into the computer. Scotty got me a new headseat for my computer so i can talk to people when i am playing my game on line. So all in all i got a lot of new toys.

And of course my night ended with nicole giving me another birthday gift ;-) .

Taxes

March 5th, 2009

So I did our taxes a few weeks ago but couldn’t file it because Nicole noticed that I had missed one of the accounts that was in her name. I finally got around to redoing the taxes for the $22 in interest from this one account. Thanks to the magic of the ‘tax tables’ we owe $21 more in state and federal taxes. WTF! No wonder people hate their taxes. Thanks to those tax tables we got a net $1 from that account. Had I not missed the account I wouldn’t have realized that the the increase of $22 of income cost me $21 in taxes making me annoyed at our tax system.

Police Escort

March 4th, 2009

So I saw something kind interesting on the start of my drive in to work today. As I was traveling down RT 29 and just before RT 32 I got behind a black Ford Expedition. At first I didn’t think anything of it but after a few seconds the car just started to scream cop to me but I could make out two people in the car instead of the usual one for a cop car. As we got off 29 and onto 32 I also realized/noticed that the car was moving in tandem with a nondiscript white big rig. This was kinda strange since normally car’s don’t move in time with big trucks since they are so slow. After they changed lanes on 32 I continued on in the right lane and started to pass the two vehicles. Just as I pulled even with the expedition i spotted the tell tale blue lights on the dashboard confirming the black car was a cop car. I maintained my speed and eventually pulled up with the cab of the big rig and I could see in the passenger seat another cop. I couldn’t tell if the driver of the truck was a cop but clearly the cops escorting the big rig. Most likely they were headed to the military base Ft. Meade which is further down on 32. I kinda wonder what they were escorting. In any case it made for an interesting drive in since thats the first time i’ve seen a police escort for an unmarked big rig.

Snow Day

March 2nd, 2009

Well this is what we woke up to this morning:

When we went to bed last night it looked like the big snow storm we were supposed to get was going to be just a dud. But I guess overnight the snow really picked up and we ended up with at least a few inches. Since the road still hasn’t been plowed nicole hasn’t left the apartment yet and is working at home with me. It’s kinda nice to have both of us at home for a snow day.
